Allison Wiffen
Allison Wiffen graduated from Camberwell College of Art in 2003 where she took first class honours. Since then she has developed a number of strikingly original ranges of hand made ceramic jewellery taking her inspiration from some fairly unlikely sources - drains and railings, and local graffiti! Much of her work is an exploration of pattern in the urban environment, but recent ranges such as Op Art have been a celebration of the purely graphic. Many of the ranges use photographic images, and Allison takes the photographs herself often in and around Deptford and London. All pieces are handmade by Allison.We have selected pieces from four of Allison's ranges:
London Wired - This range is inspired by metal patterns in the built environment - drains, utility access covers, railings, and stations roofs (in fact the station roof at Waterloo as photographed from platform 1!).
Iconic London - Some of London's famous landmarks with a slight Greenwich bias (selected to be featured in the Saturday Daily Telegraph - 2/9/06).
Op Art - The most purely graphic of all the ranges, inspired by the works of Bridget Riley and the two tone bands of the seventies - the Specials and the Selector!
Retro Pattern - a new range based on 60s and 70s patterns - there are a total of eleven patterns in the range. We have selected 4 designs, comprising cuff links, pendants, and earrings.
